Serena Dyer: Part 2. Meeting Oprah. (Can I be Next?)

March 22, 2012

Meeting Oprah! via Hay House

One super special wish fulfilled.

Serena DyerOprah Winfrey and Serena Dyer

by SERENA DYER

Learning from the one who sees good in all.

MEETING THE MOST INFLUENTIAL WOMAN of the 20th century has been a dream of mine since I first started watching her show in my early teens. This past February, as I pulled up to Oprah Winfrey’s home on Maui so she could film a show with my dad, I realized I was about to have one of my long term “wishes fulfilled.”

I love Oprah because she is the whole package: she looks for the good in everyone she meets; she has used The Oprah Winfrey Show to teach the world about spirituality; she has earned incredible wealth and genuinely enjoys sharing it and giving it all away; but most of all, just by being herself and allowing her true magnificence to shine, she has become a beacon of light for all of humanity. Oprah Winfrey lives her dharma and in doing so, she allows her true nature to shine. What a joy it is to watch and learn from someone who loves doing what they do!

One of the biggest lessons I have learned from Oprah Winfrey is that of setting your intentions, becoming what it is you want to attract (not just asking for it), and then most important, letting go.

I have learned from both my dad, Dr. Wayne Dyer, and Oprah that you don’t get what you want, you get what you are. I decided to apply this philosophy to my life and to become a person who is focused on serving others and not so focused on what’s in it for me. It was really challenging for me to blindly trust that things would work out, that money I needed would show up at the right time, and that I didn’t have to strive to arrive. There were times when I felt that I wanted to be like the rest of my friends and make a set salary, to have a position in a company that told me what to do and paid me for it. At the same time, though, I knew those things weren’t me so I decided to simply trust that if I served others, I wouldn’t be left behind. I started my own foundation www.not-for-sale.org that focuses on raising awareness about child trafficking in the United States. I became a Guardian-ad-litem, which is a volunteer advocate for abused or neglected children, and I spent a year working for free to raise money for a documentary film whose cause I believe in.

I always knew I wanted to work for myself, but I was so afraid that I would fail or that I wouldn’t be able to get anything done if left to myself that I held myself back. However, when I started to focus on other people and how I could help them, I realized that the universe was clamoring to help me achieve what it was that I wanted to do. Having this knowing that things really do work out, that I can truly just let go and be at peace and everything will handle itself is a really freeing lesson to learn.  I used to feel so stuck in my career and my life, and I had this belief that I had to push and push to get everything done. Now, I have learned to set my intention, become what it is that I want to attract and then let go. In the past, when I had something that I wanted to attract in my life, I would call everyone I know and talk about it. I would listen to their opinions on it and then start to doubt it or feel unworthy of it. Now, when I have something I would like to attract in my life, I offer myself up to the universe to become it for others first, and I don’t talk about it with other people. When I am lacking peace in my life, I don’t ask God to please send me some peace. I ask God to please “make me an instrument of thy peace.” When I wanted a loving relationship, I asked God to please teach me how to first truly love myself so that I could then offer that love to someone else. Then, I assumed how it felt to really love myself, to really feel deeply loved by someone else and I concentrated on that feeling.

In 2008, I decided to make a vision board so that I could have a visual reminder of the type of person I had set my intentions on being. I wasn’t sure what type of career I wanted so instead of putting a specific job on the vision board I put words that represented feelings I would have if I was doing my dream job. I also put on my vision board words representing the man I would like to attract into my life rather than images of a really hot guy. I also cut out photos of other people doing activities I wanted to do, like meeting children in Africa, driving an old car down the coast of Italy and going wine tasting in an exotic location. I actually glued my face over the other people’s faces so I could see myself doing these things and not just imagine them! I cut out images of a big yacht, a silver Mercedes, some nice jewelry, and I put the word “travel” all over that thing just in case the universe was being extra generous!

I also put on my vision board images of Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres with myself right next to them and can you believe it? I had the opportunity to meet Ellen in 2009 and this past February, as Oprah put her arms around me and gave me a big hug, I was experiencing one of my long term wishes being fulfilled!

Pretty much everything on my vision board has come true. I went wine tasting in Sonoma this past September. I drove in a vintage Aston Martin in Sardinia in 2010 and that big yacht and silver Mercedes? Well, it turns out that my dream man has both of those, and we just celebrated our 3 year anniversary together. My career is heading in a direction I feel proud of and I have had the opportunity to take so many trips in the past 4 years that my friends jokingly call me “the world traveler.” So many of the material things and experiences I desired happened to show up in my life in ways that I can’t even explain or make sense of, but the truth is, that isn’t even the coolest part.

The really neat thing for me is that these material things are not the best part of this experience. The best part has been really learning to become like Oprah. I find myself wanting to share everything I get, wanting to look for the good in everyone, and most important, more than anything else I want to serve others in the way that Oprah has so graciously demonstrated for me. Learning to serve others without asking “what’s in it for me” has given me a sense of peace and purpose that feels better than any jewelry or vacation ever could!

I believe that I learned how to align myself with the power of intention by offering to others what it was that I was seeking. In doing so, I became what it was that I wanted to attract. Then, as I learned from Ms. Oprah, I let go and I let God.

manifesting, Q & A Series

The Magical Serena Dyer: The Manifestation Q&A Series.

March 21, 2012

Welcome to The Manifestation Q&A Series.

I am Jennifer Pastiloff and this series is designed to introduce the world to someone I find incredible. Someone who is manifesting their dreams on a daily basis.

This next guest is an exciting one, not only because she is the daughter of my beloved teacher and mentor Wayne Dyer, but because she happens to be one of the most beautiful, authentic and inspirational women I have come across. Oh, and she is funny. Really funny.

Serena Dyer is the second of Wayne Dyer’s daughters that has been featured on the Manifestation Q&A Series. The first was my friend Skye Dyer, the incredible singer, whom many of you have heard during Wayne’s specials. Wayne Dyer himself has also been featured here. I am working my way, slowly but surely, through the Dyer clan. One “S” name at a time.

And just to be clear on this whole manifesting business I am so fond of: it works.

Wayne Dyer is THE reason I call my company “Manifestation Yoga.”When I started to achieve success as a yoga teacher very early on in my career people would ask how it was that I made such profound changes in my life so quickly. How so many amazing things kept showing up for me, from being on Good Morning America and traveling around the world with sold out retreats/workshops or becoming a writer for Positively Positive. As Wayne says: it is not our job to ask “how” or “when” but to say YES!

That is just what I did.

I do not think all of this happened because of Wayne Dyer but I do know that he was the most powerful teacher I could have ever prayed for. (And, to be clear, I did pray for a teacher.)

He showed up in my life exactly when I needed him to, as the teacher will do when the student is ready.

To see how incredible his daughters are is truly a testament that he walked the talk. That he lived the life he spoke of.

Serena is currently busy writing a book, traveling the world, cooking her butt off, running an anti-child trafficking site and laughing at herself. The last one just might be my favorite.

Not only is she stunning, but she doesn’t take herself too seriously. (One of my favorite qualities in a person.) She was lucky enough to grow with spiritual parents who taught her and her siblings that: “they are unique little creations of God, perfect exactly as they are, no matter what, and no one can take that from them. My parents raised us on this principle and I am so grateful they did.”

Her answers are profound and funny, hilarious and humble. I cannot wait to read her book and sit down to the meal she has made for me. (Serena, did you read that last bit? I’ll bring the vino.)

I almost want to put her in my pocket and keep her for myself, but, I won’t be so selfish. World: here is the amazing Serena Dyer….

Jennifer Pastiloff: What are you most proud to have manifested in your life?

Serena Dyer: Travel. I regularly daydream about places I would like to go and experiences in foreign lands that I would like to have and even though I don’t usually know how I am going to pay for the trip or how I am going to get there, it always works out. I am constantly baffled how everything falls into place so easily. I have been to 30 countries so far and I don’t plan to stop traveling anytime soon!

Jennifer Pastiloff:  Not -For -Sale.org. Can you share with us a bit how this was born and how you became so passionate about this subject of child trafficking?

Serena Dyer: I was an undergrad at the University of Miami studying religion and human rights. I came across a statistic that said “there are more people enslaved today than there were at the height of the Atlantic slave trade.” I considered myself to be a well-informd and conscientious young woman and I couldn’t figure out how there could be more people in slavery today if it wasn’t in the news everyday. I kept wondering, “if this is true, why don’t more people know about it. Why am I not learning about this in school?”

So I began a long journey to discover as much as I could about modern day slavery and what I found is that although it has a new name, human trafficking is essentially the same thing as slavery and not only is it an enormous problem in our world today, but it is increasingly on the rise.

I have always had a desire to serve others in the ways that I knew how and so I decided to start a non-profit organization that uses advocacy and education to spread awareness about this horrific practice. My organization, www.not-for-sale.org is in the beginning stages but I am proud of our web-presence and some of the ideas we have begun to generate.

Jennifer Pastiloff: What is your favorite part about traveling?

Serena Dyer: My favorite part about traveling is that I not only get to learn something about humanity and the world, I also get to learn something new about myself. I love new things and change and traveling, for me, is better than opening a present on Christmas morning. Waking up in a foreign place and having the whole day to just immerse yourself in a new culture is really exhilerating and energizing for me.

Jennifer Pastiloff: Tell us a bit about your love of cooking.

Serena Dyer: I love to cook because I love to eat! I like taking a whole countertop filled with ingredients and turning them into a delicious meal for everyone to share. I cook about 4 or 5 nights a week for my boyfriend!

Jennifer Pastiloff: What is the greatest lesson you have learned from running your anti-child trafficking site?

Serena Dyer: Since I am in the beginning stages of the site I am still learning a lot but basically that things take time and you have to be patient with the process and with others if you want to see really good results.

Jennifer Pastiloff: From your father, Wayne Dyer?

Serena Dyer: The greatest gift I have learned from my dad is that I was born with a little piece of God inside of me and that little piece of God connects me with everyone and everything. It is God that is looking out from behind my eyes, from all of our eyes, and knowing that I feel perfect, I feel safe and I feel incredibly loved.

Also, that if there is anything I want to manifest into my life I just have to align my thoughts and energy with it in order to become it, because you attract who you are, not what you want.

Jennifer Pastiloff: From the process of writing a book?

Serena Dyer: To be patient with myself, to accept myself as I am and not be so hard on myself.

Jennifer Pastiloff: From having 7 siblings?

Serena Dyer: You are never as cool as you think. (note from Jen: This girl is hilarious!)

Jennifer Pastiloff: From traveling?

Serena Dyer: Have an open mind to everyone and everything you meet. Just because something isn’t familiar to you, or makes sense to you, does not make it wrong or bad.

Also, don’t go to foreign countries expecting to get scrambled eggs and bacon the way we can get it in America… in fact, just don’t order scrambled eggs at all cause you will never get what you expect. Or iced coffee for that matter.

Jennifer Pastiloff: From cooking?

Serena Dyer: Sometimes when things don’t turn out they way they looked online, you didn’t fail.. they just used photoshop.

Jennifer Pastiloff: Gratitude is the greatest force In my life. Most of my classes are set to this theme. If you could say thank you right now, who would it be to?

Serena Dyer: My parents. Every week I see a story of another kid that committed suicide because of bullying. Every week I am reminded that kids weren’t taught that they are unique little creations of God, perfect exactly as they are, no matter what, and no one can take that from them. My parents raised us on this principle and I am so grateful they did.

Jennifer Pastiloff: When was the last time you laughed at yourself?

Serena Dyer: I crack myself up all day long and usually I laugh out loud and people look at me funny. About an hour ago I just saw paparazzi jump out to photograph this actress and there was a split second that I thought they were photographing me and afterwards when I realized that I actually thought that I laughed really hard- and almost tweeted it but then realized other people might not find it as funny as I did!

Jennifer Pastiloff: Who/what inspires you most?

Serena Dyer: Children inspire me the most. They are present, they are in awe of everything they see, they seek adventure and they are always learning and expanding. Children just want to love and be loved and when you are loved by a child, you really come alive. I have 8 nieces and nephews and I spend a ton of time with them and I always feel so present and aware when I am with them.

Jennifer Pastiloff: Who has been your greatest teacher?

Serena Dyer: I am not sure yet, at the end of my life I may have an answer but right now there are about 12 people vying for first place.

Jennifer Pastiloff: What is your favorite part about traveling with your dad?

Serena Dyer: Watching him do what he loves to do and seeing the reactions of people whose lives he has touched.

Jennifer Pastiloff: Some words Serena lives by?

Serena Dyer: Arrange whatever pieces come your way- Virginia Woolf

Jennifer Pastiloff: Can you share with us about the book you are writing?

Serena Dyer: I am writing a book about being raised with spiritual parents, from the perspective of the child (me). People always ask my brothers and sisters and I what it was like to be raised by Wayne Dyer and so I am telling them- and let me tell you, it was weird. Haha only kidding!

Jennifer Pastiloff: Who would be your dream person to do a Foreword for your book?

Serena Dyer: My dad is doing it, I never even thought about someone else!!

Jennifer Pastiloff: How can we get involved in helping to stop child trafficking?

Serena Dyer: You can go on www.not-for-sale.org and sign up for an e-alert that will let you know when a new bill or law is being passed that might need your support.

Also, the Somaly-mam foundation is incredible and the work they are doing all over the world would literally blow your mind. Somaly-mam builds shelters for girls in foreign places to escape to if they are being forced into prostitution or sexual slavery. Somaly-mam is a survivor and every penny donated goes toward helping the girls she rescues, some who are as young as 4.

Jennifer Pastiloff: What is one message you would pass on right now to someone looking to manifest their best selves?

Serena Dyer: Offer to the world what it is you want to attract. If you want love then offer love to everyone you meet. In other words, become what it is that you feel is missing in your life.

Jennifer Pastiloff: What brings you the most joy? Your joy list….

Serena Dyer:  My family

My boyfriend Matt

My best friend Lauren

My nieces and nephews (which are family but they deserve their own category cause they are so f’ing cute)

My friends

Traveling

Cooking

Reading

Talking

Great dinner with friends and great wine

Feeling successful and knowing i am doing great work

The little voice inside of me that says thank you to all of my food and God bless you to people I walk by that look like they need an extra blessing

Jennifer Pastiloff: I do an exercise in my class called “I am-ness.” Finish the sentence I am _______________.

Serena Dyer:  I am divine love, I am. (I say this at night before bed).

Jennifer Pastiloff: Where can we find more of Serena Dyer?

Daily Manifestation Challenge

WWKD? The DMC is Back!

March 18, 2012

Daily Manifestation Challenge: WWKD?

Not to be confused with WWJD: What Would Jesus Do?

(Although I recently was told that my “slightly Jewish, yogic mini sermons in yoga church were quite enjoyable.”)

WWKD: What Would Kindness Do?

That’s right, Kindness.

(Although apparently Jesus was very kind, so, I suppose interchangeable. I will not go into religious debate here but suffice to say, this Jew has faith in all. And above all, kindness.)

The  theme of classes this week is Kindness. In fact, this week is dubbed: ‘Project Kindness’.

The mantra this week, when the hands come to prayer is: I am Kind.

And in parentheses (especially to myself.)

And if you have seen the movie The Help you will be reminded of this scene indeed:

[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZimx1wHYcs]

(“I is Kind. I is Smart. I is Important.” Yup.)

During Project Kindness Week I have asked my tribe these questions:

1) What can you do to be kinder ‘out there’?

2) What can you do to be kinder in here, as in, to yourself?

Turns out, when I asked them, it was tougher to be kind to themselves.

Oye.

I get it.

I still struggle with it at times. It’s like an old demon I have to keep at bay. I keep a bat by my bed. (Well, really my husband keeps a golf club by his side but I took poetic license.)

“You’ve gained weight, Jen.”

“You’re lazy Jen.”

Those are just two examples of the old broken tapes that tempt to play in my mind even though I have upgraded to an mp3 player and they are like old cassettes or 8 tracks. They are old and unkind words that I know well and used to feel as comfortable as breath on glass.

Not so much anymore, but I won’t lie to you. Not here. They hover at the edges of my kind self and threaten to pounce when I am tired or overworked or my friend has just died.

OMG! That describes my last week.

Well, look at that.

So I decided to take the bull by the horns and show him what kindness looks like. Eye to eye. I decided to man-up.

Or woman.

Whatever.

Kindness is not very discerning.

It goes where needed and wanted.

So I asked my students, and now you, my readers: What Would Kindness Do?

Before every breath you take. Before every pose you attempt in class. Before you speak.  Before you cut someone off in traffic. Before you post on Facebook. Before you do or be.

Pause and ask yourself this: WWKD?

I would love to hear below what you can do to be a kinder person? To yourself? In the world? To a stranger?

I dared my students to buy a coffee for the person in line behind them at the coffee shop. Will you take that dare?

I have never done this but I think it would make you feel good and the person you are buying it for. And, the barista and the cashier and the person at the end of the line and the wife of the guy you bought the latte for because when he tells her the story she will be reminded that “yes, yes there are kind people still out there” even though she may have just gotten laid off.

You see how it works? Let’s do this.

Let’s create a domino effect.

How can you be better than you were before?

I cannot control if you are kind or not but I will be damned if I am not the kindest person I know. That’s the thing I can control.

I will start by adding my own comment and you can follow suit.

What would kindness do? Kindness would send a gift card to the woman I know through mutual friends whose little boy was killed last week by a car (at age 3) and she was left with 3 other kids, one with special needs. Kindess would send her a gift card for a grocery store.

Kindness would say a silent prayer for the guy I saw standing at the entrance to the freeway with a sign that said “Smile”.

Kindess, as my friend Frank said, would hang out with other kind people.

Kindness would be ok with the fact that I have been in my pajamas most of day doing absolutely nothing.

Kindess would listen more.

Kindess would tell all that I love that I indeed love them.

I love you.

And then there’s always Star Trek……

WWKD

What would Kirk do?

Reference to the infamous Captain James Tiberius Kirk of the starship Enterprise on the television series Star Trek and his creative solutions to seemingly impossible situations, problems, and interpersonal impasses.

WWKD suggests the solution to a problem lies in the question of “what would Captain Kirk do in my situation?”

poetry, Steve Bridges, There Are No Words To Describe This

What I Learned From Steve Bridges 1963-2012.

March 9, 2012

Last night my friend stopped by and as we sat on the floor of my house, she asked me “What do you think you learned from Steve? What did he teach you?”

In case you didn’t read my earlier posts, my dear friend Steve Bridges died suddenly in his sleep last Saturday morning. Click here to read about him and see photos and videos.

Although I had thought a lot about this all throughout the week, it wasn’t until Annie asked me and I had to say it aloud that I got very clear on the things I had learned from him.

Not from his death but from his life.

He taught me to love my life.

As we were laughing and boarding the plane to Mexico for my retreat in January, he looked me in the eyes and said ” I have a great life, Jen.”

He truly loved his life and lived joyously.

He taught me to be present.

He taught me to listen.

I wrote a poem called One Rose To Another years ago but I think I am going to read it at Steve Bridge’s memorial as it feels fitting.

It gives me the chills when I go back and read it now:

One Rose To Another by Jen Pastiloff

This is how you live when you are close to death.

As I do: as through the dappled light of a linen curtain.

I am the most beautiful now I have ever been.

The sun hardly touches me.

But enough is enough.

I’ve had my sun, my moon, my loves infinite as promises-

I get enough light now that I am perched here at this brink.

Pulling farther away from my lover, from my own body.

We’ve lasted longer than expected.

I have few regrets.

Had the stages of my life been clear to me all along

instead of in a flash when my heart finally sprung awake-

that slight palpitation as I flushed a pink so perfect

the earth even took notice and stopped breathing for a moment,

my own insides balking at my beauty.

I regret its taken me so long to see it.

All that I love is right here with me-

We have a little time left my love,

this puddle of water we’ve been breathing

is not quite gone

we have some time left in this glass bottle.

This is how we live when we are close to death.

As I do.

Dreaming quietly of the seed dropping,

that first morning, that first breath as our lungs opened,

our petals still just a thought under soil.

The words: I am the rose, and by extension, all that is good in the world

still part of the sky, the rain, dew.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“I regret it’s taken me so long to see it.”
I never want to look back on my life and say that.
This is what I learned from Steve.
He looked at his life and said “I love my life. I have a great life.”
Like it says in the poem I wrote, he taught me that I am: the rose, and by extension, all that is good in the world.
My connection with him ran so deep because he saw my “I Am” before I saw it myself.
Now you can see what a gift he has given me indeed. Why I have finally come up with a title for my book: I Am-ness.
We did the I Am-ness exercise at my workshops and retreats he attended.  Someone declares what they are in the form of: I am _______. This is followed by staring in someone else’s eyes for 3 minutes with that truth.
His “I am” was: Love.
Like in the poem, he taught me that “I am the most beautiful now I have ever been”.
Right now.
Thank you, Steve. I too am love.
I realize this now.
Until we meet again.
I’ve got some work to do here.
Q & A Series, Self Image
Sarah DeAnna: SuperModel YOU. The Manifestation Q&A Series.
February 12, 2012
Welcome to The Manifestation Q&A Series.
I am Jennifer Pastiloff and this series is designed to introduce the world to someone I find incredible. Someone who is manifesting their dreams on a daily basis.
Sarah DeAnna stumbled into my yoga class like she was always meant to be in my life, the way many of my tribe have done before her. Some might call it an accident.
I know better.
When you get to her last question in this interview you will see the serendipity involved in her being in my class that day. The power behind the intentions she set in that very first class she ever took with me.
Sarah is a high fashion SkealthyModel (skinny healthy), writer, and health enthusiast. Overcoming childhood poverty and tragedies, Sarah DeAnna graduated high school with honors, then put herself through college finishing ahead of schedule and went on to become an international high fashion model who’s worked for Dolce & Gabbana, Versace, Vogue, and countless others. Her upcoming book SuperModel You is being published by the esteemed Hay House.
What I love most about Sarah is her inner beauty. It’s always a treat to meet someone who makes their living off what they look like and to discover that is the thing you notice last about them. The first thing that pops into my mind when I think of Sarah is her kindness. Sure, she is stunning.  That’s not why I asked her to do this q&a though. She is a living example of what it means to be self-actualized. She is beautiful, yet humble. She is powerful, yet gentle. She is willing to be silly and not take herself too seriously (one of my favorite qualities in a person.)
She is someone I would want as a role model for my daughter (no, I am not expecting.)
Not yet anyway. 🙂
It is a great honor to introduce you to Sarah DeAnna.
Jennifer Pastiloff: What are you most proud to have manifested in your life?
Sarah DeAnna: I am most proud of what I’ve manifested in terms of my future life and where I’m going. I am not lost in the overgrown jungle of life. I am on the clear and open road of my dreams. A lot of times, when people think of manifestations, they think of the physical things; the things they can see, touch, taste, and hold in their hand. But for me, knowing that I am on the right path to fulfilling all of my dreams is what’s allowing me to live in the NOW as they say we should, enjoying the journey and not the destination or in this case, the manifestation. 🙂
Jennifer Pastiloff: What is the greatest lesson that you have learned from being a model? From your own personal yoga practice? From being a writer?
Sarah DeAnna:
From Modeling:
That we really are ALL beautiful! We should not compare ourselves or judge ourselves against another. It would be better to use those feelings of “jealousy and envy” as inspiration to inspire us to the action that will lead us manifest whatever we find ourselves coveting in another. For example, if we find ourselves jealous of another person’s body, let that inspire us to work out more, or eat healthier, take better care of ourselves, or realize how beautiful our body really is.
From Yoga:
OMG! OM with a G! 🙂 It is endless! Yoga’s great lessons never stop! The beauty of yoga is that it’s a life long practice and something you can do forever. One can never master yoga. Yoga is the physical and mental practice of living, breathing, and being. I’ve learned something in every yoga class and from every yoga instructor. Even if for example I dislike a class and find it not challenging enough or too slow, I am able to practice patience and the art of finding something good in everything. I’m really athletic so I thought yoga was boring and easy and never wanted to try it. I will be eternally grateful to all my yoga instructors and especially to, Keith Levin, my 1st yoga instructor, for challenging me to try his class and humbling me beyond words.
From Writing:
I don’t actually consider myself a writer, even though I write everyday. I prefer to be called an author. Writing is an art and that’s why NY Times Bestselling writer, Eve Adamson, will be making sure my book, Model Skinny, is in tip top shape. (Pun intended). On the contrary, I believe that we are all writers, singers, dancers and artists. Each and every one of us has something to share, express, and contribute in the lives of others.
Jennifer Pastiloff: I have a list of “rules”. See below. What would some of Sarah DeAnna’s “rules” be?
Sarah DeAnna: Rules…? I have so many rules. Too many rules. And, too many expectations. Mostly of myself that I have in the past projected onto others. Now, my only rule is to break those rules! Have fun. Live free. Trust yourself. Go with the Flow. Let Go. Expect nothing and expect everything at the same time. And, laugh and smile as much as humanly possible. Even if you’re faking it, a fake smile still releases serotonin making you feel better, can light up a room, and can improve even a stranger’s day. 🙂
Jennifer Pastiloff: Who/what inspires you the most?
Sarah DeAnna: The people who challenge the socially unaccepted norms and beliefs and who have changed the world as we know it will forever be an inspiration to me to NEVER give up and to challenge your beliefs. Most of the time, the only thing that’s holding us back from realizing our dreams are the very beliefs we harbor against them. Inspiration is everywhere and in everything, what’s truly inspiring, is finding inspiration in the mundane, the ugly, the uncommon, and in things generally disregarded.
Jennifer Pastiloff: I teach many of my classes to the theme of gratitude. If you could say thank you right now to one person who would it be?
Sarah DeAnna: I am thankful to so many people that I could go on an endless rampage of appreciation: for my friends, my family, my teachers, my agents, my publishing company, my clients, etc. I am even thankful to the people who I have perceived have done me wrong and who have hurt me. From those people there has always been a lesson learned and I have grown insurmountably because of it. If I had to chose one person to give the most gratitude to, it probably would be to the person who has hurt me the most, who has broken my heart, and who has caused me to question myself and everything around me. It was in the dark of that pain that led me to the light that shines on me today.
Jennifer Pastiloff: What is one message you would pass on right now to someone looking to manifest their best selves?
Sarah DeAnna: Whoever your best self is, whatever they look like, dress like, act like… etc.. try your best everyday to emulate and be that person. Your best self is the person you really are, minus all the baggage, biases, stereotypes, negativity, and everything else that’s keeping you from living your true potential. Your BEST SELF=YOUR TRUE SELF!
Jennifer Pastiloff: What brings you the most joy? Your joy list, as it were.
Sarah DeAnna:
JOY!?
I get the most joy out of being healthy fit, active, and following my passions and dreams. I love knowing that I made a difference in someone’s day or life no matter how small. Especially to the strangers and people I’ve never met on Facebook, Twitter, and other places, they bring me so much joy and assure me that I am doing what I was meant to do.
Jennifer Pastiloff: What is Sarah DeAnna to manifesting in 2012?
Sarah DeAnna: Expect Everything and Expect Nothing at the Same Time! (See my No Rules, Rules). I expect an amazing, abundant, and joyful journey. I hope you’re joining me!
Jennifer Pastiloff: Can you tell us a little about your journey. Tell us about ModelSkinny?
Sarah DeAnna: My personal journey has been and continues to be amazing. It has been crazy and tragic and awesome and just incredible in every way. Model Skinny, was/is my physical body’s journey. I have always been on the journey to Model Skinny, my dream body. Model Skinny is how I defined the body I always wanted to have. The body I have now. My best self I suppose in terms of my physical, visible, outer body.
Model Skinny is a book I began writing, when I first starting modeling and saw the overwhelming need for people, models and everyone else, to know that they can have the body they want and still be healthy. Model Skinny is a book about how to get the body of your dreams, which might not actually be a skinny one! And why should it be? Curves are so sexy and guys prefer that to skinny! But if it’s a skinny body you desire, it’s important to know that not all models are anorexic, bulimic, or have an eating disorder. And my book, Model Skinny, will give you the keys you need to manifest your dream body in whatever shape or size that may be.
Jennifer Pastiloff: How did Hay House find out about you? When is the book out?
Sarah DeAnna: The better question is how was I so lucky to find out about Hay House!? Most people my age have never heard of Hay House, Louise Hay, Wayne Dyer or any of the other amazing Hay House authors. While shopping my book with other publisher’s, something felt wrong. I didn’t know what it was, but something wasn’t right. I decided to walk away from the offers and my literary agent and within a few months, I discovered Hay House. In fact, it was the authors at Hay House and what Hay House stands for that inspired me most. Many of the Hay House authors and the people who buy the books and materials they produce are older, so I knew the odds were stacked against me. But I was determine to show Hay House that I could be a Hay House author and hopefully help inspire a younger generation to all the incredible things they do. Imagine my surprise that inspiring a younger generation was exactly the vision of Louise Hay and the Hay House team and is the objective of the Hay House Ignite Event in March. (See link for information).
The publishing date is TBD, but the “Model Skealthy Dream is Alive” as I wrote on the piece of paper in my 1st yoga class with you. Skealthy means skinny/healthy. You can look it up. 🙂
Jennifer Pastiloff: When was the last time you laughed at yourself?
Sarah DeAnna: The other night! And I really want to tell you about it because it was absolutely hilarious! But it’s going to be an anecdote in my next book. Let’s just say, I did something really stupid that hurt really bad, but ended up inspiring me. I don’t believe in accidents or mistakes, I believe everything occurs for a reason and when you start to see the world that way, it’s amazing how seemingly really tragic events or things can change your life and become some of your greatest blessings in disguise!
Jennifer Pastiloff: Can you share the story again of the first time you came to my class… the note I had you write and how you found it later because I think you are a walking example of someone who is manifesting their dreams by first imagining them. You are creating the life of your dreams!
Sarah DeAnna:
Here is link to an earlier post where Sarah shares her story about my yoga class and what transpired during and after.
Dear Jennifer,
So this is the paper from my 1st class EVER with you! I walked in, I was late… (kinda a problem I’ve been working on…) You said, “Here’s a piece of paper, write down what you’re manifesting right now in your life. Whatever that is. The first thing that comes to your mind”. I was late, so I just scribbled this down in 2 seconds.
The Hay House
Then you told us to fold it up put it under or next to our mat and think of it every time our hands came together. I never felt so alive in that class! So connected to my dream and everything I wanted. Then class ended and I took that piece of paper and put it in my backpack only to find it months later. And when I unfolded it, it put the biggest, happiest, and most authentic smile on my face.
The truth is I’ve been chasing these dreams for sometime now and I have only recently began to manifest them in the most amazing and incredible ways. As for did I manifest everything in that class before or after I signed my dream book deal with my dream publishing house and my dream writer, I can NOT recall precisely. But the timing of both definitely coincided and definitely influenced one another. Now this piece of paper is tacked on my wall as a reminder about the power of manifestation and the invaluable impact that one class, one person, and or one moment in time can have on your life! I really do feel like I am living my dream life and the words on this piece of paper from your class can NOT feel more active in my vibration than if I was hit on the head with a gong!
Jennifer, you are an incredible person and a wonderful teacher! My wish is that all your dreams come to fruition and that you live your life to it’s fullest manifestation possible!
With Love and Gratitude, SarahDeAnna
Q & A Series
Alissa Finerman: Living In Your Top 1%. The Manifestation Q&A Series.
February 10, 2012
Welcome to The Manifestation Q&A Series.
 I am Jennifer Pastiloff and this series is designed to introduce the world to someone I find incredible. Someone who is manifesting their dreams on a daily basis.
Today’s guest is life/business coach and author Alissa Finerman. Alissa has become a dear friend over this last year, and, in fact, we have done a couple of workshops together called “Manifesting Your Top 1%.” Alissa and her book “Living In Your Top 1%” helped me to get clear on my goals and really step into my power, allowing me to achieve so much in these last few months. Allowing me also to really define my own top 1% team. It’s exciting!
I highly recommend her book, Manifesters!
She has done a guest post already on the Manifestation Station but I wanted you all to get to know my dear friend and mentor, so I asked her to join us in the Q&A Series. She fits right in, alongside such great minds as Dr. Wayne Dyer, Anita Moorjani and the lovely Christy Turlington.
Alissa is one of the most powerful and strong people I have come in contact with. To have her on your own top 1% team would be a dream come true. Now is your chance to get a glimpse into the mind of Alissa Finerman…..
Jennifer Pastiloff: What are you most proud to have manifested in your life?
Alissa Finerman: In 2004, I visited one of my best friends who lived in Santa Monica, CA. I took a picture of the sun shining down on the ocean with the mountains in the background. I put that picture in a frame in my apt in NYC, where I was living at the time, and told myself that’s where I would live. Today, that picture is in my kitchen in Santa Monica, CA and amazingly enough — I see that view every single day!
Alissa holding up KIND bars, which everyone enjoyed at my Manifestation Retreat. Thank you KIND.
Jennifer Pastiloff: What is the greatest lesson that you have learned from being a life and business coach? from competing on the professional tennis tour? from writing a book?
Alissa Finerman I’ve learned different lessons from each of these experiences.
* Life/Business Coach: Once people shift their minds to believe in themselves, anything is possible.
* Professional Tennis Tour: I learned the importance of quieting my mind and focusing on one point at a time. That’s how tournaments and big matches are won and it’s how big things are accomplished in life. One step at a time.
* Writing a book: Writing a book was an incredible learning experience and process. I was outside my comfort zone during the entire process and had to depend on myself (although I did have a great team). At the end of the day, I had to step into the CEO role and make the decisions. And I proved to myself that I can successfully step outside my comfort zone and do it!
Alissa's book is a MUST READ.
Jennifer Pastiloff: Can you tell us a bit about your book?
Alissa Finerman: My book, Living in Your Top 1%, is a combination of motivation, inspiration, and practical how-to (think Tony Robbins meets Oprah). In the book, I break down the laws of success and show people that you can achieve personal greatness from any starting point. There is a process and I share nine rituals to help people create the life they want. I share insights from the best thinkers in the field with a collection of compelling stories, to help people of all ages reach their true potential. I also wanted to make people aware that your top 1% is different than the top 1% and we need to separate what society thinks we should do from what we actually want to do. One of the biggest thrills was having Marianne Williamson, a NY Times bestselling author, give me an endorsement to use on my book cover — I manifested that too! 🙂
Alissa and I at my Manifestation Retreat to Ojai where she was a special guest and a big hit!
Jennifer Pastiloff: I have a list of “rules”. See below. What would some of Alissa’s “rules” be?
Alissa Finerman
1. Set aside the shoulds
2. Make yourself a priority
3. You have the right to say yes and no
4. Match your words and actions
5. Own your choices
6. Be consistent
7. Go after what’s important to you
8. Honor your non-negotiables
9. Define success and follow YOUR top 1%
10. Step into the CEO role of YOU INC.
Alissa speaking to some of my retreat participants. They loved her!
Jennifer Pastiloff: Who/what inspires you the most?
Alissa Finerman: I’m inspired when people find their passion and truly do what they love. It could be Anthony Robles, who won the NCAA wrestling championships with only one leg, or a teenager that I mentored who will be the first person in her family to go to college. I love when people shine and redefine their potential — that makes me really happy and inspires me.
Jennifer Pastiloff: I teach many of my classes to the theme of gratitude. If you could say thank you right now to one person who would it be?
Alissa Finerman: I love your classes and the themes you choose. I’d have to say “thank you” to my mom, dad and brother for always believing in me during every stage of my journey (from leaving a successful Wall Street career, to moving to LA from NYC). They are incredibly consistent and I can always count on them, and for that I am deeply grateful.
Jennifer Pastiloff: What is one message you would pass on right now to someone looking to manifest their best selves and their top 1%?
Alissa Finerman: Be kind to yourself and realize that success or finding your passion doesn’t happen overnight — it’s a process so enjoy it. You’re top 1% is ready for you and you CAN go from impossible to possible (it’s only 2 letters). Start to build a top 1% team and condition your mind to practice rituals that help you shine.
Jennifer Pastiloff: What brings you the most joy? Your joy list, as it were.
Alissa Finerman: Seeing other people shine and experience top 1% moments.
Jennifer Pastiloff: What can we expect Alissa Finerman to manifest in 2012?
Alissa Finerman: Wow, there’s so much to manifest! I will give my “Living in Your Top 1%” workshop all over the country, write for OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network), have Oprah recommend my book as one of her favorites and have the book be in the Top 50 on Amazon, give a TED talk, work with at least three Fortune 500 companies as a speaker/coach, donate 5k to charity with proceeds from my book, have my own radio show featuring people who are inspiring others and making a difference in the world, and be in an amazing relationship! And much more!
Jennifer Pastiloff: Can you tell us a little about your journey. Giving up your 9-5 job to pursue your dreams…..
Alissa Finerman: I had a great life, good job, was living in NYC and making good money. There was only one problem — I wasn’t fulfilled or engaged in my job and I didn’t want to live in the cold weather. In 2007, I was finally honest with myself and realized that even though I had gone to business school to have a finance career — it wasn’t my path. It came to the point where I couldn’t go on one more day in a finance because I wasn’t passionate about that area. I left my investment job in 2007 and started on my journey as a Business/Life Coach and got my coaching credentials.
Jennifer Pastiloff: Why did you pick life coaching? When did you realize you had a gift for this?
Alissa Finerman: I’ve always been interested in motivation and why two people given the same resources excel to different levels. I started reading personal development books back in 2000 and have read hundreds of books and articles. I received my coaching credentials from New York University. As a coach, I get to inspire and be inspired by incredible people and that’s a true gift. I love what I do and it’s taken me a long time to say that. I’m grateful for that too!
Jennifer Pastiloff: I read somewhere you mentor young women. Can you tell us about that?
Alissa Finerman: When I worked on Wall Street, I didn’t feel like I was making a difference and that always bothered me. Last year, I set a goal to get involved with three non-profit organizations, Dress for Success, Step-up Women’s Network, and I gave a scholarship with proceeds from a book signing event I did to a great organization Exceeding Expectations. So I’ve had the privilege to make an impact with young women in these organizations and that’s very exciting for me. It’s important to me that every person has someone who believes in her and tells her she can not only dream but achieve great things too.
Jennifer Pastiloff: Who are your greatest teachers?
Alissa Finerman: Marianne Williamson started me on my journey with her book, A Return to Love, and helped me open my heart and mind to a world outside of Wall Street. I learn everyday from my clients, yoga teachers (yes you), hiking in the Santa Monica mountains, and stories of people redefining possible.
Jennifer Pastiloff: What is one quote you live by?
Alissa Finerman: Different quotes speak to me during different periods in my life, this quote speaks to me right now because I like to challenge myself to live in my stretch zone and reach higher…
“There is no passion to be found playing small, in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.” ~ Nelson Mandela
Jennifer Pastiloff: Are you writing a 2nd book?
Alissa Finerman: Soon! One of my goals is to have an idea/theme for my next book clearly defined by the end of 2012!
Jennifer Pastiloff: How can we find more of Alissa Finerman?
Alissa Finerman: I have a monthly newsletter that people can sign up for on my website. They can also join my Facebook and Twitter pages to learn about upcoming workshops/events. And to learn more about coaching options, please visit www.AlissaFinerman.com
Q & A Series, Wayne Dyer
Wayne Dyer! My Beloved Teacher Visits The Manifestation Q&A Series. A Dream Come True.
February 8, 2012
Welcome to The Manifestation Q&A Series.
 I am Jennifer Pastiloff and this series is designed to introduce the world to someone I find incredible. Someone who is manifesting their dreams on a daily basis.
Someone like Wayne Dyer.
The greatest day of my life is here! My beloved Wayne Dyer is visiting us for a short q&a.
 Pinch me?
My inspiring friend Karen Salmasohn designed these posters especially for this day. Check her out at notsalmon.com
Wayne Dyer is THE reason I call my company “Manifestation Yoga.” When I started to achieve success as a yoga teacher very early on in my career people would ask how it was that I made such profound changes in my life so quickly. How so many amazing things kept showing up for me, from being on Good Morning America and traveling around the world with sold out retreats/workshops or becoming a writer for Positively Positive. As Wayne says: it is not our job to ask “how” or “when” but to say YES!
That is just what I did.
I do not think all of this happened because of Wayne Dyer but I do know that he was the most powerful teacher I could have ever prayed for. (And, to be clear, I did pray for a teacher.)
He showed up in my life exactly when I needed him to, as the teacher will do when the student is ready.
His talented and inspiring daughter Skye, who happens to be my dear friend, will be doing music for my upcoming yoga/life dvd so I did a Q&A with her in December. In it, I mentioned that my dream was to have her father do a Q&A.
Guess what? Ask for what you want and be prepared when it shows up.
And most definitely, honor your worthiness to receive.
I have Dr. Dyer on my vision board (of course.) I have thanked the Universe in advance daily for this opportunity.
I could go on and on about Dr. Dyer. How he is a father figure for me, how I listen to him talk about his children and how it humanizes him. How his humor gets me through some dark days (you will see some of his silly humor below). How I have learned to “let it be” and find the G-d within from his words. How I have relearned to believe in miracles. How I have cultivated a meditation practice despite the difficulty I have because of my tinnitus. (I will save that all for my book dedicated to him and my deceased father, Melvin Pastiloff.)
Dear Manifesters, the proof is in the pudding. Here I am, interviewing my beloved Dr Dyer. I have manifested my greatest dream.
I am humbled.
I live my life by the mantra “ How May I Serve?” yet another thing I have learned from Dr. Dyer.
Because of him, I decided to forego a traditional wedding and donate all my money from my wedding (in lieu of gifts) to Haiti after their earthquake. I do my best to let others shine their light. What I love about this man is that he is doing the very same! By him being here today, he has asked “How May I Serve?” and in doing so, he is enabling me to have my own dream come true. I have seen him do this more times than I can count, by the way. In fact, one of my other guests, Anita Moorjani, my friend who wrote the amazing book “Dying To Be Me” was introduced to me via Wayne Dyer.
He picks up inspiring people he believes and lets the world get to know them.
I will stop raving now.
Come to one of my Manifestation Workshops/retreats or the Tadasana Festival in Santa Monica on Earth Day weekend. if you want more Wayne Dyer quotes or inspirations or read one of my Positively Positive articles.
I got more Wayne.
I got tons more on Wayne Dyer, the man who helped me change my life and discover my bliss.
(Do you think I am too old to be adopted by him?)
Jen, Wayne and Jen's friend Tara Berro.
Jennifer Pastiloff: What are you most proud to have manifested in your life?
Wayne Dyer: The divine love in my heart.
Jennifer Pastiloff: What is your favorite part of having Skye sing on stage with you? Having lost my dad at age 8, I could not stop sobbing the first time I saw you two up there together. That feeling from that first night I saw you both live in Santa Monica is still with me.
Wayne Dyer: She brings her supreme talent to my audience along with her gracious and loving personality, which I feel so proud to watch.
Jennifer Pastiloff: I am so moved by the forgiveness you have shown toward your father. Forgiveness is something I struggle with often. The last thing I ever said to my dad was “ I hate you.” What would you say helped you the most in forgiving your father? What would you also say in regards to someone who is struggling with forgiving themselves?I know when I do ‘Forgiveness” themed meditations in my Manifestation Workshops, they are the most powerful. People are the usually most moved when I ask them to meditate on forgiving themselves.
Wayne Dyer: I was sent by forces bigger than all of us to his grave for the purpose of forgiveness, even though I wasn’t aware of it. Forgiveness is for yourself and not for the other person, it clears your soul of rage and that is why its so important to forgive.
Jennifer Pastiloff: I have a list of “rules”. See below. What would some of Wayne Dyer’s be?
Wayne Dyer: I live by the Tao, a man of the Tao is kind to the kind and kind to the unkind because kindness is his nature.
Jennifer Pastiloff: In my workshops I have people share with the room, and in writing, what it is they are manifesting in their lives. I may be wrong, and please correct me if I am, but I thought I have read that you suggest to keep what you are manifesting private. I go back and forth. Suggestions?
Wayne Dyer: It’s absolutely crucial to keep it private because that keeps the ego out of the process. My feelings are: Don’t explain, Don’t complain.
Another by the lovely notsalmon.com
Jennifer Pastiloff: What is the greatest lesson you have learned from your kids?
Wayne Dyer: Don’t have any more. Just kidding.
I used all ‘S’ names and I should have used “Stop” for the first one.. Only joking.
Having children gives you an opportunity to truly experience divine love which is no matter what they do or who they are or what they choose, you still always love them.
Jennifer Pastiloff:  I guess I will have to change my name to “Sennifer” to be adopted by you then.
My sister Rachel, whose one son has Prader Willi Syndrome asked me to ask you the following: How does one continue to manifest your dreams while being a parent? I recall you saying children will challenge your worthiness to receive the most, somewhat facetiously, of course.
Wayne Dyer: Parents are not for learning. They make learning unnecessary. Manifest your dreams by letting your children manifest theirs.
Jennifer Pastiloff: Do you practice yoga? (When are you coming to one of my classes, ahem? It’s NOT Bikram!)
Wayne Dyer: Yes, I practice Bikram yoga everyday. Maybe one day I will come to one of your classes 🙂
(Note from Jen: Yay! Yay! Yay!)
Jennifer Pastiloff: Gratitude is the greatest force In my life. Most of my classes are set to this theme. If you could say thank you right now, who would it be to?
Wayne Dyer: I thank everyday the “I am” presence that is located within me. I am in a state of gratitude for the “I am” presence that is the life that is in my body.
Jennifer Pastiloff: One of the things I love most about you is your humor and the fact that you seemingly do not take yourself too seriously (Note from Jen: After reading this you will indeed believe that this amazing man does NOT take himself too seriously at all. What a gift!).
I have a “rule” in my yoga class which is “ if you fall you must laugh”. You are not allowed to take yourself seriously in my room. Being mostly deaf I have learned to laugh at myself in a way that has surprised even me sometimes, because the alternative was to feel sorry for myself. And that, I believe, is my ego at work. What part does humor play in your life? When is the last time you have laughed at yourself?
Wayne Dyer: One of the most important lessons I have learned is to not take yourself too seriously. Yes, that is the work of the ego.
I laugh at myself everyday.
Jennifer Pastiloff:  Based on your answers I can tell you laugh at yourself daily and I love that balance. I absolutely cherished the film “The Shift.” ( I knew I wanted to be on ‘The Ellen Show’ (currently working on getting my Karaoke Yoga on there as we speak) but when I saw her wife Portia in your film, it was a done deal! When I found out you married them I almost fell out of my seat.) Can we expect any more films from you soon?
Wayne Dyer: I have a new film, My Greatest Teacher, which is based on a series of miracles that occurred and brought me to my father’s grave, which is where I learned forgiveness. I have a mind that is open to all things and attached to nothing so anything could happen, including another film.
Jennifer Pastiloff: Can you tell us about your latest book?
Wayne Dyer: Wishes Fulfilled, my latest book, is about understanding spiritual manifestation; you manifest what you are rather than what you find is missing in your life.
Jennifer Pastiloff: I am writing a book on how I manifested my dreams and overcame depression and adversities like hearing loss. I am struggling. Any tips on the writing process from someone who has written so many books?
Wayne Dyer: Writing is not what I do, writing is what I am. It is how I express my whole humanity.
Jennifer Pastiloff: Did you finally get a computer? I remember you saying you wrote your books by hand.
Wayne Dyer: I have an iPad (which I am using to write this) and the thing I like most about it is the trash button. Anything that comes at me that I don’t want to hear, I just push trash and then delete.
I am trying to figure out a way to get one of those in my real life.
I am still writing my books by hand though.
Jennifer Pastiloff: How has meditation changed your life?
Wayne Dyer: Herman Melville said ” God’s one and only voice is silence”. Meditation allowed me to make conscious contact with God.
The incredible Robert Sturman captures me in silence. Malibu 2012.
Jennifer Pastiloff: What do you think the 5 greatest keys to the manifesting process are?
Wayne Dyer: I don’t think linear and I don’t think numerically. The only key to manifesting is staying connected to your source of being, which is the author of all things.
Jennifer Pastiloff: Everytime I see you, I am amazed at how great you look. As if you are ageless. Can you tell us about this? I know we all die, of course, but I am fascinated by the idea that everything about how we live is a choice. As you say, you can be miserable or motivate yourself, the choice is yours. I look at you and see someone so vibrant and full of life.
Wayne Dyer: At my essence I am birthless, deathless, and changeless, that is who I am. This body I am in is just a container for my formless soul.
Jennifer Pastiloff: How is your health now? What has the journey been like since you were diagnosed with leukemia?
Wayne Dyer: I am perfect health. I am well.
Jennifer Pastiloff: One of the things that shifted my life the most was when you spoke of Manifesting at your Santa Monica talk and gave us 7 steps. You said one of them was “ Does It feel natural to you?” I thought about my prior career as an actor and realized that it had never felt natural. What I am doing now does. I cannot imagine another life, nor a life without you as my teacher. How and when did you discover this principle?
Wayne Dyer: Generally speaking something not feeling natural means you feel unworthy of what you would like to attract into your life. It doesn’t feel natural for a person who has always been poor to feel prosperous. Drug addicts can’t picture themselves free of their addiction, but our natural state is one of well being and unlimited potential.
Jennifer Pastiloff: What are you manifesting in 2012?
Wayne Dyer: A four hour erection but I am consulting my doctor.
Just kidding.
I am manifesting experiential awareness of divine love!
Thank you Jen.
Jennifer Pastiloff: Thank you, Dr. Dyer. I love you.
At 72 years young this man still has a sense of humor like no one else and a life energy and force to be admired. I love you Wayne!
Q & A Series, There Are No Words To Describe This
Dying To Be Me. The Manifestation Q&A Series: Anita Moorjani.
February 6, 2012
Welcome to The Manifestation Q&A Series.
 I am Jennifer Pastiloff and this series is designed to introduce the world to someone I find incredible. Someone who is manifesting their dreams on a daily basis.
There are no words to describe this, which is why that is one of the categories I have filed this interview under. I met Anita Moorjani in October when I went to see my great teacher Wayne Dyer speak in Pasadena. Through a series of events which prove to me the divine guidance of love and the power of manifesting, I ended up not only at the lecture, but as Dr. Dyer’s guest with his daughter. I happened to be sitting next to a beautiful woman who as it turned out would be speaking at the event. Not only did she speak, but she cracked my heart open. I sobbed for hours after I saw her and heard her story. Not with sadness, but with a clarity and an understanding and a yearning for love. I do not want to talk too much about her because I want you to see for yourself who this woman is to me. She is now, next to Wayne Dyer, one of my great teachers and spiritual guides.
On 2nd February 2006, Anita Moorjani experienced what most of us never have!
She crossed over and came back to share what she learned. Doctors at the hospital had given Anita just hours to live when she arrived at the hospital that morning, unable to move as a result of the cancer that had ravaged her body for over three years.
Below she shares with us what she learned and her big beautiful heart. Please get her book as soon as you can. Dying To Be Me, Anita’s book, goes into great detail about what it means to live authentically and fearlessly and how it is imperative to love ourselves fiercely.
I love this woman and am counting the days until I see her and Dr. Dyer in San Jose! Join me?
Get ready, my sweet Manifesters……
Anita and I in Pasadena, California after she and Dr. Wayne Dyer spoke
Jennifer Pastiloff: What are you most proud to have manifested in your life?
Anita Moorjani: Healing from cancer! By far that is the most important manifestation of my life! But I am also incredibly proud to have written a book! I never thought I could write, so it feels really surreal to realize that I have actually authored a book that is being published by Hay House! What a dream come true!
Jennifer Pastiloff: What is the greatest lesson that you have learned from having a near death experience?
Anita Moorjani: The biggest lesson I learned was how important it was to love myself and be true to myself. That is the most important lesson from my NDE. I had always thought it was selfish to love myself and meet my needs before others, but I learned that if I do not love myself, I will not have enough love to give others because I cannot give others what I myself do not have. The more I love myself and have my own needs met, the easier it is for me to be generous with others.
I used to be a people pleaser, and always put others first, and was often afraid of being myself. I was always trying to be someone I was not, and would always become drained from doing and doing for others. And I always thought it was selfish to pursue my own needs when others were more needy. But I now understand that it’s not selfish at all to have my own needs met first, and in fact, I am here to be myself. And when I am self actualized, it makes me healthier, happier, more generous and less needy. I also understand that if we constantly try to be someone we are not, the planet will be deprived of who we really are!
Jennifer Pastiloff: I have a list of rules. See below. What would some of Anita’s rules be?
Anita Moorjani:
1. Don’t take life seriously;
2. Eat chocolate;
3. Realize YOUR OWN MAGNIFICENCE!!
4. Eat more chocolate;
5. Enjoy life and do what brings you joy;
6. Make your everyday choices based on what makes you FEEL good, rather than what you THINK you should do or what others think you should do;
7. Live your life out of passion and love, rather than out of a fear of failing and displeasing;
8. Start each day listening to “Dancing Queen” and singing along with it;
9. Laugh at yourself every single day! (The more you practice this one, the sooner you will achieve nirvana).
10. Every time you look in the mirror, remind yourself that you are a perfect child of the universe who is here to be true to yourself. Your only purpose is to be yourself. To try to be anyone else would be depriving the universe of who you really are.
11. Don’t worry too much about “getting it right”. When our only purpose is to be our self, we cannot get it wrong!
12. Start each day with a clean slate, leaving behind the emotions of yesterday. Each day is a blank canvas, on to which we can paint anything we desire! So it’s our choice whether we paint our canvas with joy, love and laughter, or with fear, anger, regret, anxiety, and worry.
Jennifer Pastiloff:  Who/what inspires you the most?
Anita Moorjani: The people who inspire me the most are the ones who make the greatest magic on our planet without realizing that they are making magic. The unsung heroes who receive no recognition, fame or monetary rewards for what they do. People like the lady in our community who rescues abandoned and unwanted dogs, and feeds and homes all the dogs that no one else wants; the parents who adopt special needs children who they know no one else will adopt because they are going to give them a challenging life; or the nurses who deal with terminally ill patients with the utmost care and concern, and can still remain cheerful and upbeat for the sake of their patients. There are many such people who have woven themselves into the fabric of our society, yet most of us don’t even notice or recognize them. They have become all but invisible to us, and whenever I come across someone like this, it is both inspiring and humbling.
Jennifer Pastiloff:  I teach many of my classes to the theme of gratitude. If you could say thank you right now to one person who would it be?
Anita Moorjani: This one is easy – it would have to be Dr. Wayne Dyer! You would not be interviewing me right now if it weren’t for him, and I am so grateful to him for believing that everyone needs to hear my message and giving me the opportunity to share my message with the world! He has been such a huge support in getting my book published and out there, and the universe could not have conspired to bring me to the attention of a better or more suitable person than Wayne!
Jennifer Pastiloff: What is one message you would pass on right now to someone looking to manifest their best selves? Especially after seeing you in Pasadena with Dr. Dyer and hearing what you went through, I know that your message is one that is very important for us.
Anita Moorjani: My message is very simple – JUST BE YOURSELF! Always be true to yourself, and you will attract what is truly yours! There is nothing more to it than that, really. The more we try to be someone we are not, the more we are pushing away what we truly deserve.
The only reason we deny our own truth is out of fear – fear that who we are is not deserving, not good enough or inadequate in some way. This fear will push away what we truly deserve. All we need to do is to be our self fearlessly, and we will attract what is truly ours!
Jennifer Pastiloff:  Tell us about your journey with Dr. Wayne Dyer, who is also a guest on The Manifestation Q&A Series, and happens to be my greatest teacher.
Anita Moorjani: This was an amazing, and synchronistic journey, which I have written about in great detail in my book. Wayne discovered my story – which was brought to his attention by a lovely lady named Mira Kelley – at the exact moment when I was ready to share my story with a broader audience. After reading my story, which Mira printed off the internet to show him, Wayne felt compelled to track me down and help me publish a book on my story. It took a staggering amount of synchronicities for my story to reach Wayne’s hands, and finally become a published book, in such a short frame of time!
Jennifer Pastiloff: What brings you the most joy? Your joy list, as it were.
Anita Moorjani: Seeing others helped by my story! Nothing makes me happier than for others to feel that hearing of my experience has helped them in some way to heal their hearts. It makes my journey through cancer so much more worth while. I don’t want others to suffer the way I did, and hope I went through what I did so others won’t have to!
Jennifer Pastiloff: What are you manifesting for 2012?
Anita Moorjani: I am hoping that together, we can manifest a world without irrational fears! Although I understand that some fears may be healthy, as they may keep us safe from harm. But as a race of people, we have become pathologically fearful, and it is now a serious disease that is devouring us and our planet. Fear not only feeds illnesses like cancer, and wears down our immune system, but it is also at the root of our violence and terrorism. We have become a fear-based society. Our behaviors and decisions are all based on our fears, rather than our passion or desire for a more joyful and fruitful life. Our medical systems, laws, governments, etc, are all fear based and fear driven, rather than stemming from a desire to do good for ourselves, our community, and the planet. Because of this, our emotions are constantly in a state of fear! I would love to be the catalyst that makes people aware of this, and makes people see things differently. Our only responsibility is to see it in ourselves, and change it in our own self. When we can do that, we will see the world change.
Jennifer Pastiloff: Can you tell us a little about your journey. Let’s say who you were 15 years ago as compared to now.
Anita Moorjani: 15 years ago, I was afraid of everything. I used to be a people pleaser, and would try very hard to fit in, and would be afraid to show my true feelings. I felt I had to work hard at being liked, and would not be considered a good person unless I did things to deserve it. I used to believe that I had to work harder at being more spiritual, a better person, etc. And I always felt I didn’t measure up to other people’s expectations. Now I realize that we are all spiritual, whether we realize it or not! How can we not be, as we come from spirit and return to spirit? And my only responsibility is to be myself, and if that’s my only responsibility, then I cannot fail! And if we are not being true to our selves, then the universe is deprived of who we came here to be.
I also used to be very particular about everything I ate, not because of a love for myself or a caring for my body. It was because of fear of what these foods would do to me. I was very afraid of cancer, and believed that everything caused cancer, from microwaves, barbecued foods, red meat, plastic containers, pollution, sunshine, etc. I now realize that it’s the emotions I feel about the food that has more effect on me than the food itself. I can choose to eat conventionally healthy food, and as long as I am doing it because I love my body and life, and want to live long and healthy, then that’s the effect the food will have on me. If I eat it out of fear, because I am afraid of cancer, I am just sending fear based energy through my body, regardless of whether the food is healthy or not.
Even if I eat a piece of chocolate or dessert, I eat it because I want to enjoy the sensation of eating it, and enjoy every bite.
Jennifer Pastiloff: Where can we find more of you and your book?
Anita Moorjani: My website is www.anitamoorjani.com. It is kept updated with all my latest video uploads, as well as upcoming speaking engagements.
To order my book, the best place would be Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1401937519/ref=as_li_tf_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=dytobeme-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=1401937519
In my book, I go into a lot more detail, particularly about my illness, what emotions I feel caused it, and what emotions I feel healed it.
Jennifer Pastiloff: When was the last time you laughed at yourself?
Anita Moorjani: I think I laugh at myself all the time! My husband and my closest friends know me well enough now to know how important it is to be able to laugh at ourselves, so we do it all the time now! I am now able to laugh at myself really easily at what I used to at one time perceive as my inherent “flaws”. I laugh at my human-ness, and no longer beat myself up when I fail, goof up, can’t keep up, fall down, am criticized, and so on. I now realize that if all we have to do is be ourselves, we can’t get it wrong!
Jennifer Pastiloff: What would say say about the theme of “Forgiveness”, a big one in my classes.
Anita Moorjani: For me, this is an interesting one. My NDE has really changed my focus on forgiveness. In that NDE state, the love for myself was unconditional, and I realized that I was one with everyone.
Prior to my NDE, I used to think that I had to forgive people if I perceived they had wronged me or hurt me in some way. I now realize that there is nothing to forgive. People don’t hurt others intentionally – they only do so out of their own pain. Or when we perceive hurt where there is none intended, we are perceiving hurt out of our own pain. If I am able to love myself unconditionally, and realize that we are all One, that is, part of the same Whole, then it becomes easier to love and accept others unconditionally. And when I can do that, I realize there is nothing to forgive. If we are One, then forgiving others is the same as forgiving myself.
And when I can live from a place of total acceptance for self and unconditional love for self, it becomes much easier to live from that place of unconditional love and total acceptance for others. And when we are in that place of acceptance for all, we realize that there is nothing to forgive. Everything is as it should be.
Jennifer Pastiloff:  When can we expect you back in the U.S.?
Anita Moorjani: I will be back in the US in March. I will be speaking with Wayne Dyer at the San Jose “I Can Do It” conference hosted by Hay House on March 17/18. Am really looking forward to it – to meeting all the lovely people there again! And I just love being on stage with Wayne. I just love his presence! He has such a wonderful way with his audience and his guests!
Jennifer Pastiloff: What would you say to the 16 year old Anita?
Anita Moorjani: I would say, “You are perfect the way you are! You don’t need to change for anyone else! You don’t need to feel that you have to do things to prove yourself! You are loved unconditionally. You are a perfect child of the universe, and your only purpose is to be yourself.” I would make sure that the 16 year old Anita feels that she is loved unconditionally, regardless.
Jennifer Pastiloff: I was most moved by the love of your husband. Can you share a bit about that?
Anita Moorjani: My husband has always loved me unconditionally. He really is a lovely man, and what I didn’t realize in the beginning was that all I had to do was love myself unconditionally too, and merely by doing that, I would be able to love him unconditionally as well! However, instead of just basking in his unconditional love for me, prior to my cancer, I had always felt I had to do things to make it up to him, for loving me so much! I was always trying really hard to make it up to him for loving me so much. I never realized that I just had to “be” rather than constantly focus on “doing”.
When I first got married, I had always thought that I, as a woman, would be the one to teach him about the meaning of unconditional love. But through my illness, I realized that he was the one teaching me.
My husband is my soul mate, and I am always grateful for him, and the way he cared for me through my illness. He believes that was his purpose in this life – to see me through that.
Jennifer Pastiloff: Thank you. I love you xoxoox
Anita Moorjani: Thank you, and love you too!!! xxxxxx
Inspiration
Wayne Dyer on The Manifestation Station. My Dream Come True.
January 15, 2012
Wow. Just wow.
So, I did a q&a session last month with Skye Dyer, Wayne Dyer’s daughter. As you know by now, I am mildly obsessed with Dr. Dyer. He truly helped me to change my life. He is my greatest teacher.
Anyway, in that q&a with his daughter Skye (an amazing singer) I wrote:
“Today’s guest is an exciting one for me. Dr. Wayne Dyer is my main source of inspiration (and I am manifesting doing a Q & A with him. It is on my vision board, folks!). I believe he truly taught me the power of manifesting.”
So guess what? Wayne Dyer saw that post and asked me to do a q&a with him. He is such an incredible man. He suggested it!
So, I will ask my blog readers first: Any burning questions for Dr. Dyer? I am writing it up tonight and tomorrow. Please post below or email me any questions or comments you would love me to ask him or say to him.
Thank you all and I encourage you to keep manifesting what you want in your life.
It works.
But don’t forget to work hard too. It’s key.
Love, Jen
Guest Posts, Q & A Series
Guest Post. Wayne Dyer’s Daughter: Skye Dyer, Singer Extraordinaire.
December 20, 2011
Welcome to the Manifestation Station Q & A Series, where I sit down with someone inspiring whom I want to share with the world.
Today’s guest is an exciting one for me. Dr. Wayne Dyer is my main source of inspiration (and I am manifesting doing a Q & A with him. It is on my vision board, folks!). I believe he truly taught me the power of manifesting.
Today’s guest is his daughter Skye Dyer.
I met his daughter Skye a couple years ago when he spoke in Santa Monica and she graced the audience with her voice. Since then, our friendship has developed and I can safely say that she is one of the kindest people I have ever come across. Together, we are conspiring to make an amazing DVD in 2012, with me teaching yoga and Skye singing. Her voice is lovely as many of you who have heard her sing at her father’s talks or on PBS or through Hay House already know.
What you don’t know is what is coming next for Skye!
I want you all to get to know this woman because she is about to take the world by storm with her music. She plans to release an album of her own soulful music at some point next year where the world will get to see her in a new and profoundly different way. I chose Skye to start off the series with because I found her story to be so inspiring and to resonate so closely with what The Manifestation Station is all about. She chose to follow her bliss and take the road less traveled. And for that, my dear Manifesters, I love her.
She loves deeply and lets that love shine through her voice.
Jennifer Pastiloff: What are you most proud to have manifested in your life?
Skye Dyer: I am proud of so many things that I have manifested in my life but I am most proud of the love and respect that I have with my husband.
Jennifer Pastiloff: How much of your dad’s (Wayne Dyer) philosophies and words do you live by?
Skye Dyer: I truly live by all of my parents philosophies. I am who I am because of all the wisdom and knowledge that they have bestowed on me, and the freedom to decide if these ideas mesh with who I am. I never take for granted how lucky I am to have been raised by two of the most spiritually intelligent people I have ever met.
JP: One of my favorite stories to hear your dad share is when you wanted to leave school to follow your bliss and be a singer. Can you share with us a bit about that. Not everyone is as much a Wayne Dyer fanatic as I am, so some do not know it.
SD: I have always known my true passion was for music and truly believed in my ability to sing. I was at college studying Jazz Vocal and at school they were constantly reminding us of how it would be very difficult to excel in this profession and that very few of us would be successful, possibly none at all. These ideas did not gel with what I had been taught my whole life, and that was to never put limitations on yourself, and all they were doing was trying to limit our potential. I decided that I was going to switch majors and sing because I loved it and for no other reason. I then decided to leave school and start traveling with my father and gain some experience by singing in front of his audiences. It was the best decision of my life 🙂
JP: What is your favorite part about traveling with your dad?
SD: Getting to spend time with one of my favorite people in this world. My dad is truly the most intelligent person I know and I love that I am constantly learning when I am around him. He also is the most humorous person I know so I love that we are always laughing. Basically my dad is the greatest and I love him.
[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCxrarPGQwM]
JP: Knowing you personally, I know there is something else waiting for us in terms of Skye Dyer music. What is next for you?
SD: More songwriting that really expresses who I am and what is going on around me or within me. I am always exploring and traveling the world so that I can connect with people thru my music. Hopefully people will finally really know me!
JP: What or who inspires you most?
SD: People that are living a life of service and on purpose, they inspire me the most.
JP: What is Skye Dyer manifesting for 2012?
SD: I am manifesting songs from my heart and the ability to truly touch people with my voice.
JP: I have set of rules. See below. What are some of Skye’s rules?
Skye’ Rules:
1. If you have the choice to be kind or right, always be kind
2. Love with an open heart
3. Remember to laugh at yourself and others
4. Be grateful and enjoy every moment
5. Never care about anyone’s negative opinion it is their opinion not yours
6. Become obsessed with something you love
7. Sweat and meditate everyday
8. A little wine never hurt anybody
JP: If you could thank one person right now, who would it be?
SD: I would thank my husband for loving me unconditionally and always believing in me no matter what.
Skye and her husband.
JP: My dream was to be on Good Morning America. Did it! My next dream is to tour with your dad to at least one city and have him give me a blurb for my upcoming book. ( It’s also to raise at least $500,00 for Prader Willi Syndrome research.) If you could have one dream come true in regards to your music, what would that be? THE WORLD IS LISTENING.
SD: I want my album to come out this year, a collection of songs that really shares who I am with the world, to be touring and singing those songs for people everywhere. And loving every second of it.
The stunning Skye singing her heart out.
JP: I am excited that we are partnering up for my yoga dvd, and even more excited about how our friendship has developed. For those that don’t know, I am a firm believer in ” ask and you shall receive.” The burning question is: Do you practice yoga?
SD: Lol I knew you would ask me this. I do practice yoga but I am not as diligent as I should be, maybe you can whip me in shape 🙂
JP: How does family play a part in your life?
SD: My family strongly shapes every part of my life. They are my world and I am so grateful for each and every one of them. They are all my teachers and my best friends and I don’t know what I would do without them.
To learn more about the lovely Skye please join her Facebook page. Stay tuned for her album and her own world tours!
