Dawn Brotherton is an essayist and novelist living in rural Oklahoma. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in General Studies and an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Central Oklahoma. Her work explores chronic illness, trauma, boundaries, faith, and the quiet ways people rebuild their lives after difficult experiences. When she isn’t writing, Dawn coordinates grants and community programs for a nonprofit day center, where she has helped secure more than $200,000 in funding to expand services for people experiencing homelessness and poverty. The work continually reminds her that resilience is often found in ordinary moments rather than dramatic ones. Her personal newsletter, Life with Edges, reflects on the intersections of health, creativity, caregiving, and everyday life with honesty, curiosity, and hope. She is currently at work on a literary novel about inherited family patterns, emotional boundaries, and learning to rewrite the stories we carry from childhood. Dawn believes that some of the most meaningful transformations happen quietly—not through grand breakthroughs, but through learning to understand ourselves with greater compassion.
