Kat Macfarlane is a writer with disabilities who chronicles her experiences with the autoimmune disease she has had since childhood and the U.S. healthcare system. Her writing has appeared in Ms., BUST, Huffington Post, xojane, Northwestern Magazine, NolaVie, The Hairpin, and Intima. Her essay “Flying Into Jerusalem,” about discovering that having rheumatoid arthritis would keep her from having children, was anthologized in Bodies of Truth: Personal Narratives on Illness, Disability, and Medicine, edited by Dinty Moore. When she's not writing personal essays, Kat teaches Constitutional Law and serves as Director of the Disability Law and Policy Center at Syracuse University College of Law. She lives in Syracuse with her dog Cooper.
