You Don’t Need a Big White Wedding To Get Married After All.

My latest on MindBodyGreen talks about how I did my wedding. It was NOT traditional, to say the least.

I also offer suggestions for you as to how to have your dream wedding.

I would love to hear your thoughts. Click here.

The above photo was taken at my wedding at The Yoga Collective in Santa Monica where I held it. I asked people to bring donations and we gave all the money to Haiti for the earthquake relief. Click photo to read article.

Love this! We had a nontraditional wedding, too, partly because, well, we’re both women. But also because we didn’t want the whole thing to be about us, and it was really really important to us that everyone at our celebration felt comfortable and welcome (and had a great time!). We asked for donations to a few organizations (Mazon, Humane Society, Nature Conservancy, Israel Fund) instead of gifts. Some people did still send gifts, but mostly we ended up with a lot of really awesome notes and cards, which were more fun for us than silverware (and take up less space!). And oh my gosh, people were so generous with their donations. It was amazing.

For the ceremony, we focused on it being awesome for our guests, figuring that we wanted to honor them for being there to witness this commitment we were making. We invested in kick ass food, lively music, and pretty much that’s it. Food and music, and a rabbi, and a chuppah made out of a tablecloth and some clearance-table pink tulle from Joann Fabric. It was perfect. Oh, and instead of bridesmaids, we just invited every kid there to walk us (together) down the “aisle.” There wasn’t a dry eye, believe me!
